The past five and a half years have been a wild ride. I started off photographing in parks and in my home. I quickly outgrew that phase as I started to welcome rescue dogs into my home and also realizing the light and space in my home was pretty terrible.
The next phase was all on location. This meant outdoor (usually parks) and in clients homes. These shoots where for the most part AMAZING. But this also brought a laundry list of challenges for me. Props got damaged/lost, doing my best to find the best light was sometimes tricky and space was often tight. I loved it through because I got to meet so many amazing families and really get to know them.
Last year I took a huge leap of faith and got my space inside Aspire Studios. Again...LOVED it but again I found limitations. The space was small so I was still lugging around all my props/backdrops, family shots required rental of a larger space and it was 100% studio light only. Trust me I love studio light, but I wanted more options.
This February, Ian McCausland (a photographer I have admired for many years) asked me to join his space. I had seen it before and pretty much jumped on the opportunity before he had a chance to change his mind. So, here I am at 300-690 St Joseph street. Amazing location in the heart of St Boniface with the perfect space and light.
I am settled in, most of my stuff has been moved in and it is time for change once more. From here on in, newborn/baby shoots will be studio only. I have been going back and forth in my mind about this but it is time. I want to provide the best possible images for my clients and for me, this means having control of all the elements that make for a successful session.
- light....natural or studio I have it covered
- space...it is HUGE. Like I have a bathroom and storage room even!
- convenience...easy parking, comfortable space for babies AND families, change table, fridge and private washroom. OH and a great coffee shop right at the end of the street.
- props and backdrops are on site. Allows for last minute idea changes and more options for clients.
Bring on the next chapter in this crazy career that is photography and I hope to see you all at the studio :)
